FIRST Robotics Brings STEM Education to Exciting Life

Since 1993, Parametric Solutions Inc has served a client base of industry and aerospace companies producing gas turbine engines. The Jupiter, Florida, company’s 300 employees provide design solutions and analysis, as well as product procurement, instrumentation, assembly, and data evaluation. Parametric Solutions Inc employees maintain a strong philanthropic presence by volunteering for community and educational nonprofits such as FIRST Robotics.

FIRST Robotics works to give every child the opportunity to develop 21st-century skills of thinking, collaborating, and creating in STEM fields. FIRST Robotics’ mentor-facilitated programming strengthens kindergarten through 12th grade students’ abilities in science, technology, engineering, and math and allows new interests to blossom.

The organization sponsors two Lego leagues and a technology challenge, as well as the FIRST Robotics Competition. Open to high school students, the Robotics Competition is structured as a kind of extreme thinking-based sport - mentally and emotionally grueling, but unusually productive and inspiring. The competition teams STEM professionals with the students to work together to find solutions for complex engineering and technology problems. After participation in the Robotics Competition, almost 100 percent of students report being more interested in going to college.

FIRST Robotics got its start more than 25 years ago through the work of entrepreneur and technology education advocate Dean Kamen. It has now achieved worldwide recognition as a leader in tying excitement and fun to STEM-based learning.
