NASA Lecture Focuses on Potential of Flying Taxis

Parametric Solutions, Inc., is an engineering services enterprise that maintains 300 employees and recently expanded to a third location in Jupiter, Florida. At the core of Parametric Solutions’ value proposition is innovative, project-focused gas turbine engine design and development capacities.

Maintaining a robust professional presence, the company is active with the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), which stands as a preeminent organization in its field. One recent Advanced Air Vehicles Program topic at NASA’s Langley campus, presented by the AIAA president, was on the potential of “flying taxis” as a technology of the future.

As envisioned within the presentation , these aircraft would rely on eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) and combine electric propulsion with autonomous systems that would be linked to a networked system, such as that which powers Uber.

NASA research currently stands at the forefront of battery-powered electric aircraft technologies, which have the potential to “revitalize general aviation.” Many of the key insights would come from those currently powering the emergence of unmanned aircraft such as drones.
